The 16-19 Bursary - Get Help With Your Finances

 

If you are young person (16-18 years old) and attending one of our study programmes you could be eligible to apply for a bursary or free meals. If you are:

 

  • Claiming Income Support or Universal Credit
  • A Looked After Child
  • Care Leaver
  • Claiming Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance (or Personal Independent Payments)

 

You could be eligible for a priority bursary of up to £40 a week (£1,200 in an academic year). We also award discretionary bursaries to young people who:

 

  • Had free school meals in Year 11; or
  • Have responsibility for caring for a relative.

 

If you fit any of these categories you could be eligible for an award of up to £30 per week (£900 in an academic year) while attending your study programme.
For those young people who live in a household whose income is £16,190 or less or up to £22,000 with more than one dependant, you could be eligible for assistance towards the costs of:

 

  • Travel
  • Lunch while on the course
  • Cost towards equipment


You may also be able to apply for support towards the cost of clothing for a specific activity on your study programme or clothing for interviews or a placement.


If you have childcare needs the Care to Learn scheme could help with childcare costs while you study. You must be under 20 at the start of your course.
