Lifelong Learner in Youthbuild UK final

Mitchell-YB

It's not everyday a letter lands on the doormat inviting you to appear at the House of Commons, but that's exactly what happened to Construction Design Centre apprentice Mitchell Bills.

Sheffielder Mitchell, 17 (pictured left)  had been selected to appear as a finalist from over 2000 entrants at the Young Builder of the Year awards that are taking place at the historic building on the 15th October 2014. All finalists also get to take a ride on the London Eye, with the lucky winner walking away with a prize worth £1500.

"My mum came running into my room and kissed me on the cheek after she'd read the letter - she couldn't believe it!" said Mitchell. "I was shocked, surprised and very happy with the news as well!"

Mitchell, who is currently serving an apprenticeship with Meadowhall Shopping Centre's maintenance department, started his career journey at the Construction Design Centre, Manor Lane, Sheffield on the 14-16 Vocational Skills Programme. He added: "I find my job very theraputic and get a real sense of satisfaction when I've finished a day's work. Being at the Construction and Design Centre has opened doors that have helped me pursue a career in Painting and Decorating - the tutors are very friendly and the atmosphere is really relaxed but you still get loads done."

Well done Mitchell! All the staff at Lifelong Learning wish you all the best for your big day in London.
